Nova has struggled with severe photosensitivity for about a year and a half now. We truly can not go outside at all due to her having extreme drop seizures. We have been house- bound and desperately looking for a solution to give our girl a little bit of normalcy. There’s been no playing outside, no swimming, even walking from the car into the store can trigger this cluster of what feels like endless seizure activity, Even in overcast weather, the Florida rays are just too much for her. We have tried regular sunglasses, cheap polarized sunglasses, nicer polarized sunglasses, and all to no success. I continued to do research and came across blue tint sunglasses. The ones we purchased were Yogi Epilepsy Glasses for Kids with Z Blue Tint – Shop Chadwick Optical. These glasses are pricey, so it was risky to decide to pull the trigger, but we were desperate for some relief for our girl- and if you read on the website linked above, they have studies for how these lenses work. After we received them, we made many successful trips across the street to Meemaw and Pop-Pop’s house with zero to minimal seizure activity. Until this Saturday, we were too fearful to try them anywhere for a longer duration-but this weekend we did something crazy. We took Nova swimming! To our amazement, she was able to swim for the first time since she was a baby, for over 30 minutes. She had the time of her life and was so happy. It was truly a life changing moment. Dravet is so different for each kid experiencing it, I can’t guarantee these will always work- but man, I am so glad they worked for Nova!
